Compress video

Make a video smaller on your own device. Nothing is uploaded.

About this tool

Compress a video when it is too big for an email, an application portal or a messaging app. Choose Low, Medium or High and you see an estimated size for your own video before you start, so you can pick the level that fits. The compression happens on your own phone or computer, so your video is never sent to us or anyone else, and there is nothing to sign up for. When it finishes you can compare the original and the result side by side, then download the smaller file.

How to use it

  1. Choose your video.
  2. Pick Low, Medium or High and compare the estimated sizes.
  3. Press Compress. You can cancel at any time.
  4. Compare the original and the result, then download.

Common questions

Will compressing make my video look worse?

Some detail is lost, because a smaller file stores less information. On ordinary footage Medium stays very close to the original, and High gives the smallest file with softer detail. Compare the original and the result side by side before you download.

How long does it take?

It depends on the length of the video, its size and how fast your device is. Everything runs on your device, so a recent computer is much quicker than an old phone. You can cancel at any time.

Good to know

  • Pick a level and you see an estimated size for your own video first. The exact size is shown when it finishes.
  • Easy footage shrinks a lot; very detailed footage shrinks less. A video that is already compact may barely change, and we tell you if so.
  • Compare the original and the result side by side before you download.
